Something To Think About

A friend of mine emailed me this. Thought it was VERY telling of America today.

There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat; you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.

One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free Lunch! A politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do yourself.

If you see all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to share this with your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably find some way to justify why this post is wrong, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

'A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.'
Thomas Jefferson

Our government has been taking and supporing the takers. Subsidies are given to corporate intrests, not the citizenry. The current situtation has brought me to the post the following on another blog:
The 14 points of Fascism
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

The Squeaky Wheel said...

My response:

1) Stupid. Like when FDR rallied America with the "New Deal" and flags? FDR is as liberal as the come (opposite side of the Pol Spectrum as Fascism... but since you use Wikipedia for info, I do not expect much from you, so I will talk slower.)

2) Disdain for human right like killing babies in the womb? Oh wait, you folks on the left love that stuff.

3) I know, damn Fascist in 1941... Always blaming someone else for their sinking burning ships. (General statements like the one you made are dumb... generally)

4) You are right, because a weak military is safer. Wait, what?

5)Rampant Sexism, like attacking a woman running for VP asking if she can be a good mother and do the job, or attacking what she wears or accusing her of being evil because SHE did not abort her baby? You mean that sort of Rampant Sexism?

6. Yes, because it is so Obvious Bush and the Republicans control the media. i mean it is so obvious they LOVE him and the Republicans. Good call!

7. Yes, because why care about such things. I mean we NEVER get attacked on US soil anyway, right?

8. Do you even know any history. An actual Fascist was Hitler, who was not a big fan of religion. Also, my kids are having a "Holiday part" instead of a Christmas party. Explain that one to me...

9. Have to agree. Fuck corporations. What have they done for anyone except employ people create a jobs, products and services?

10. When you say suppressed, do you mean by wanting to make votes open and not secret (Like Obama wants and the Dems). Hmmm, that isn't fascist at all is it?

11. When you say open minded, do you mean open minded like the city of San Francisco running the military recruiters out of town? Do you mean open minded like the LA Times suppressing news that they don't like and do you mean like when only liberal views are allowed at universities? Or do you mean like suppression of any non-liberal views in Hollywood, TV, music, arts, etc?

12. yes, because punishment for crime is so over rated.

13. Seriously? Like Biden being lobbied and voting how his son says? like CLINTON being a senator from a state she is not from? Chicago, Daly, 'nuff said. Glass house comment there.

14. I will have to get back to you on Nov. 5th on this one. We will see how much impact the unverified 200,000 fraudulent registrations the DEMOCRAT Sec of State Brunner allowed had an impact. Also, we will see if Obama's ACONR staff helped. You may be right about stealing the election. Let’s See what Obama's folks do Tuesday first

Wikipedia? Seriously, that is your "source"?
