NAACP and Sanders: Blaming Vick is Racially Motivated and Wrong

The race for Media Whore is always a close one but the NAACP makes another case for winning. As if we did not hear enough from that origination of irrelevance this year, today the president of the Atlanta chapter felt the need to chime in about Michael Vick.

What? Yes.

A multi-millionaire football star allegedly bank rolls a dog fighting operation and personally participates in fights and the execution of dogs by angina and drowning… This DEMANDS a reaction from the NAACP, right? Huh?

R.L. White, President of the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP said, "The way he is being persecuted, he wouldn't have been persecuted that much had he killed somebody."

Really? Well, the NAACP supported OJ Simpson, maybe he has a point. But anyway, back to Captain Fantasy:

He urged the National Football League, the Atlanta Falcons and Vick's commercial sponsors not to dump the troubled athlete.

"We feel that whatever the courts demand as a punishment for what he has done, once he has paid his debt to society, then he should be treated like any other person in the NFL," White said.

Really? Really? Are you F-ing kidding me!?!?!? Just like that organization said about Don Imus, right? Before the whiners speak up, I know these are two different situations. Don Imus broke no laws and he is white, so yeah, F- him. Vick is a black athlete so he is entitled to special treatment and forgiveness. Got it.

What the NAACP and other are truly angry about is that this “Fight Club” has been broken wide open. It would appear that this is the tip of the iceberg. An awful lot of folks have come out and are speaking about dog fighting as if it is a norm.

Deion Sanders even went as far as to pen a piece to explain to the rest of America that we should not judge because:

What a dog means to Vick might be a lot different than what he means to you or I.

This genius goes on to explain:

And some people enjoy proving they have the biggest, toughest dog on the street. You’re probably not going to believe this, but I bet Vick loves the dogs that were the biggest and the baddest. Maybe, he identified with them in some way.

You can still choose to condemn him, but I’m trying to take you inside his mind so you can understand where he might be coming from.

But wait for it. Here is the best part:

I believe Vick had a passion for dog fighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win.

It reminds me of when I wore a lot of jewelry back in the day because I always wanted to have the biggest chain or the biggest, baddest car. It gives you status.

See, he had a PASSION for it, that's all and he sees dogs differently than us so it is ok. Of course Germans saw Jews differently in the 30s and 40 and had a ‘passion’ for them too. Am I comparing Dogs to humans? No. I am simply saying that passion does not supersede the law or simple ethics and morals.

Now I know that the NAACP and the likes of Sanders are quick to compare this to hunting. But you see hunting is legal. If you want to legalize dog fighting, lobby for it, but until then, the law is the law, even for those millionaire athletes who rise and sleep under a feeling of entitlement.

Of course I am not sure how you can get drowning and hanging of dogs legal, but good luck.

So what have learned today? Well that ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING dealing with an African American means that it MUST be a racial issue. We have also learned there is a huge dog fighting culture that has yet tot be fully exposed and that it is ok as long as you have a “passion” for it and if you are doing it for the sake of status.

BTW, for those who actually read Sanders' (Crap) piece, you will enjoy my response to him.

Polls Show Americans Unhappy with the Government in General

With the President’s approval numbers in the crapper, Congress decided that they should follow suit.

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup Poll finds Congress' approval rating the lowest it has been since Gallup first tracked public opinion of Congress with this measure in 1974. Just 18% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, while 76% disapprove, according to the August 13-16, 2007, Gallup Poll.

That 18% job approval rating matches the low recorded in March 1992, when a check-bouncing scandal was one of several scandals besetting Congress, leading many states to pass term limits measures for U.S. representatives (which the Supreme Court later declared unconstitutional). Congress had a similarly low 19% approval rating during the energy crisis in the summer of 1979.

Is there any part of the Government that is getting positive numbers?

On a side note, can anyone tell me what the Congresses in 1992, 1979 and today have in common? Anyone? Anyone? (Cricket noise)

Is Business Too Casual?

For ten years I served on Active Duty in the Navy. One of the best parts of the job was not having to decide what to wear to work. They literally tell you what the ‘Uniform of the Day’ is and I had very few options (Hmm, shall I wear khaki, khaki, khaki, or oh, maybe blues/whites). When I came home to Ohio recently and began working in the private sector, the issue of my wardrobe (or lack thereof was a stressful one.

You can not imagine how much shopping I had to do. I like shopping to a point, but I tend to buy a lot of the same of everything so I guess I am not good at it. I knew I should own a few suits, a lot of slacks and shirts, shirts, shirts. I remember that the day before I started at my new job a few months back, my supervisor made a point to me that I should NOT wear a suit. She said, “We dress casual but for business.”

On a daily basis I wear a button down shirt, slacks of some kind and nice shoes. On Friday I wear jeans (expensive trendy ones) and some sort of shirt (cue the dramatic music) untucked.


Recently I had lunch with a friend of mine who is a lawyer at a very prestigious and traditional law firm in Ohio. He bragged about how they were cutting edge because they went “Business casual.” Now, for them, that simply meant no ties.

I work at an Advertising and PR agency. We have people who work in the Creative Department that don’t even own ties. However, they do own and wear a lot of t-shirts.

It seems that suits and ties (And the equivalent for woman) is a dying norm in business these days. Is this good? Is this bad? I don’t know.

My question is this: At your place of business, is it “Business Casual” and if so, what does that mean at your company and do you think business has become too casual?

Pryce Not Seeking Re-Election

WASHINGTON — Republican Rep. Deborah Pryce of Upper Arlington will announce Thursday that she will not seek re-election to the congressional seat she has held since 1993.

Word is that former AG James Petro will go after the GOP nom and that Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy is stupid enough to run again.

Why stupid? Well if you are a Democrat and could not win in 2006, you ain’t ever going to win. Any other election Kilroy would have been smashed by 10 or more points but the national disgust with the GOP and the President GAVE her those votes she had. Kilroy is delusional if she thinks she can win a middle school student council election, to say nothing of a congressional seat.

Anyway, back to Rep. Pryce. She is holding a news conference Thursday but the reason has already been given. Apparently it is just too hard to raise her daughter, Mia, while being away so much.

I can’t blame her… lets be honest.. Dealing with one whiney child is bad enough, dealing with another is just too much.

Fair winds and following seas, Rep. Pryce. I am proud of the job you did and hope that you do not leave public service. You are valuable.

Nappy Headed Ho Sues Imus

I am sorry, I couldn't resist.

Sadly though, this is true.

Don Imus is facing his first lawsuit from a player on the Rutgers Women's Basketball team for derogatory comments that cost him his job as a radio host in April, ABC News has learned.

Kia Vaughn, star center for the Rutgers Women's Basketball team, has filed a lawsuit against Imus for libel, slander, and defamation -- the first civil suit to be filed against the former radio host. Vaughn is asking for monetary damages of an unspecified amount.

Since when is offending people against the law or finable offense? And who the hell does she think she is that her feelings are so damn important. She never heard of Don Imus until someone told her about him and she was only “offended” because she was told to be. She is not a Ho, she is a money and publicity whore. There, since “Ho” is not allowed, I will say whore.

She is a pawn being used to further this assault on free speech. What happened to the days of “I may not like what you say, but I will defend your right to say it’? Oh, wait, that doesn’t apply if you are black and the likes of Sharptn need attention… Like a child.

By the way, I would never hire Vaughn for anything. She obviously is easily manipulated and is weak. My only question is, when she heard Imus (Did she ever actually hear the show?!?!), did she cry? I bet she did.

Seriously, if an old man on the radio using a quote from a SPIKE LEE movie ruins your life, you were worthless to begin with. Toughin’ up, Babe.

It just dawned me. This chick dropped a lawsuit on Imus AFTER it was announced that CBS Radio settled with Imus for $20 million. Wow, she actually IS a whore!

The XM / Sirius merger would suck

I have been against this merger from the beginning. Not only do I truly believe that Sirius' CEO Mel Karmazin would nickel and dime subscribers to death... to say nothing of cutting off XM in favor of Sirius based platforms (Requiring new radios sooner rather than later... I love my Inno and I think the Stiletto is a piece of shit) but also I fear that Mel’s boyfriend, Howard “Hoo-Hoo, I invented everything” Stern would have way too much input. This, of course, means that O&A and R&F stand to be let go, and that would suck.

Clinton/Obama Ticket. Don’t Count On It

There has been some talk from the likes of Newt and even Giuliani that there might be a ticket in 2008 made up of Senators Clinton an Obama. Stories like this and exchanges like the one below at yesterday’s AFL CIO Forum in Chicago (Which replays of can be heard on XM channel 130, POTUS) show me that this is unlikely to happen.

This is only the beginning and I imagine that these two will only go after each other more… as Edwards chases them like a little puppy to be included and relevant.

If she wins the Democratic nomination it will only make it easier for a Republican to win the White House. She can not win a general election. Not because she is a woman, but because she is... Why must EVERYTHING Be Made Into A Race Issue

I guess when you are obsessed with race and ensuring that you stay in the public eye by being divisive, ANYTHING having to do with an African American is fair game.

Really? Really? Are you F-ing serious?!?! Where was this call for restraint during the Duke rape accusations? (BTW where the hell is the apology from the NAACP and the likes of Sharpton and Jackson?) Where was this call for restraint during the Tawana Brawley debacle? Where was this call for restraint during the Reginald Denny beating?

Once again, the NAACP has chosen to focus on symbolic, non-substantive issues instead of tackling real issues effecting the African American community. THIS is why they are irrelevant to their own community and offer no real positive impact anymore.

The NAACP is like a firefighter who holds protests against the hue of red on the fire truck while the building burns to the ground behind their picket signs and press conferences.

Iraqi Government Not Serious About Their Own Future

When I read this, I shook my head in, well, disgust.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's parliament closed for its summer recess on Monday, lawmakers said, deciding to take a break until early September despite having failed to enact a series of laws demanded by Washington.

If the Iraqi Government is not willing to put in over-time, or any time to get their miserable country together, why should we? This is evidence of a Government, as it were, that needs pressure through real consequences.

We can no longer cry wolf. Iraqis are not pulling their weight because they know they don’t need to.

Unless the US Military can go on recess until September, the US Government should DEMAND that the Iraqi Parliament get their asses back to work. This is just more support to this argument.

Why Is The Dispatch Such A Disservice?

As many of you know, I spent the last ten years everywhere but Ohio. I had the honor of serving on active duty in the Navy which took me to Chicago, California, Spain, France, Turkey, The Bahamas, Greece, Croatia, Malta, Italy, and many more places.

When I had the opportunity to move my family home to Columbus I took it. Thankfully there was employment in the private sector here doing what I love.


A lot has changed in Columbus. This pace has gone from the wanna-be town between Cincinnati and Cleveland and has become a city that is the envy of the Midwest. If you are chuckling, then you have never left C-Bus.

Columbus has a great nightlife and entertainment line up regularly, amazing parks and recreation, a wide variety of housing for all income levels, some of the greatest colleges and universities in the Midwest and being that it is demographically representative of the nation, more restaurants and market trials of new products than you can shake a stick at.

With all of this has come business and lots of it, When I was younger, all anyone talked about was going to college (most likely OSU, Miami or OU if you went to Worthington like me) and getting the hell out of Ohio, Columbus in particular. Today, that is not the case.

More companies boast about being in Columbus like the Limited Group, Express Fashion, Cardinal Health, Battelle, and on and on. More young professionals chose to stay in Columbus or seek out Columbus more than any other city in Ohio and more than most in the Midwest. The fact is, this one time Cow town that was nothing more than the home of OSU is now a Business leader. And how is this reflected in the Columbus Dispatch? With over eight pages of Life & Arts and pages of Sports that has the ONE PAGE of business news. Wow. That is a sad statement if I have ever seen one.

I used to live in the Hampton Roads section of Virginia. Over 70% of the economy was based on the Military and the local rag, The Virginian-Pilot has a Business section that is over 5 times the size of the Dispatch.

When people come to Columbus to interview for jobs or decide if they want to establish or expand their business in Columbus, I guarantee they pick up the Dispatch. What does it tell them? I guess it says if you want play college ball, you are in the right place. Beyond that… Well let’s just say the Dispatch does a disservice to the tens of thousands of business people who do not run a 4-40 or do not have tickets to the horse shoe.

One page Business section? Dispatch, you are a Disgrace.

The Hill has published it's fourth annual 50 Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill list. Well worth a look, of course. Although I adamantly (and nauseously) disagree with #4 (A blatant ass kissing mention to be sure), the others are impressive.

There seems to be slightly more Dems than Republicans, but I am not sure if that is a comment on the publication's bias or if there are just more beautiful Dems on Capitol Hill than Republicans. In the end, who cares :-)

Not a single one of the eight presidential candidates plans to attend the Democratic Leadership Council's summer meeting, a snub that says less about the centrist DLC than it does about a nomination process that rewards candidates who pander to their parties' hardened cores while ignoring everybody else.

Do not get me wrong. I am not a huge fan of the DLC but I recognize the IDEA behind it and appreciate their efforts to appeal to a moderate audience (you know those people that MoveOn.org DOESN’T fraudulently claim as members of their crazy-farm cult).

The point is, to be elected by your party you can not be a moderate. If there was a Republican Moderate convention, none of the GOP candidate would show either (Well maybe Ron Paul would. Hell, that nut job will show up to TGIFriday’s for happy hour if you promise to get him on TV).

The point is, there is something wrong in a country that is so politically divided and is wanting, no, begging for leadership that can bring people to the table, but no one of that ability will or could get a nomination.

Iran is nuts and a threat to the Middle East. I do not endorse anything pre-emptive, but I also do not endorse restraint on our part or on Israel’s part when Iran does strike them… and they will. No troops, no planes... just glorious missiles that send video feed back until impact and are launched from land... or from under water.

Al Sharpton Runs Radio And YOU Allowed it To Happen

So now The “Reverend” Al Sharpton has come out granting permission for someone to hire Radio DJ Don Imus.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Rev. Al Sharpton, who urged the Imus' firing, wouldn't object if the radio personality returned to the airwaves. "He has a right to make a living," he said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

Yes, I said he granted permission. Who the hell is he and why do we need his approval? Because you as the public empowered this racist monster to be the moral authority. Forget about his history and his moral crimes, by not standing up to him and by allowing him to bully the station owners, he was empowered.

If you think that this was just a black “leader” protesting an old guy who made an off color remark, think again. It was a power grab and you let it happen. This race baiting media whore was desperate for relevance and CBS Radio and the publics’ silence gave him just what he wanted.

Of course, Don Imus was fired, the ever dreaded N-Word was ‘buried’ in a symbolic (Yet ineffective) ceremony... All problems are solved now, right? Of course I know [White Guilt] Ragnar would cry “But it is a start… isn’t that something?”

No, it is not. It is like giving Rogaine to a cancer patient while crying that the Doctors and the chemo therapy are oppressing the hair. It is not addressing the realities and the source of the problems in a community they claim to be leaders of.

Education, Education, Education. If those are not the first three words out of mouths of Sharpton, Jackson, or the NAACP then they are failing to lead. Maybe a little less money spent on limos for Sharpton, setting up hack burials and more spent on fighting for education dollars in the inner city, real police protection for law abiding folks in the community and developing business opportunities for people.

This man has no credibility. The other day in NYC a White cop and an Asian ciop walked up to an SUV. Three black men in that SUV rolled down the windows and shot, at point blank range, the two cops, killing one. Where was Sharpton and where was Jackson?

Now am I saying that these guys shot the cops simply because they are black? No (Although they will be heroes in prison, and that is a sad comment on society) but had the cops shot the men in the SUV, is there any doubt that there would be marching in streets against the cops led by the media whore Sharpton?

I would have enormous respect for Sharpton if he would gone on TV or had even just released a statement expressing his condolences to the families and saying that this sort of crime hurts all people and called for a march against violence. But no, we heard nothing.

NEW YORK, July 13 (UPI) -- A New York lawyer filed a class-action lawsuit against night clubs he says practice gender discrimination with ladies' night promotions.

Attorney Roy Den Hollander claims the clubs, including the Copacabana Nightclub, China Club, A.E.R. Nightclub and Sol, violate the 14th Amendment's guarantee of equal protection under the law by offering discounted or waived admission fees for women during the promotions, the New York Post reported Friday.

Fine by me. I am no anti-war lemming but if al-Maliki thinks he can do better, let him. I know the moment the US leaves his country will implode, thousands of Iraqis will kill each other but hey, he says he can handle it. Let him.

I would rather sit and watch Iraqis die than Americans. It sounds heartless, I know but the hard truth is one of those two situations seems to be inevitable so if forced to choose, I choose to protect Americans every time.

The Neo-Hippies cry for peace. In their ignorant bliss they think that if the US leaves, everything will be ok… because that is what a bumper sticker said, but that isn’t the case. If you think Iraqis are dying now, wait until the US leaves. Watch the carnage as these savage tribes in this over rated third world country kill each other. Let them. Let them eat their own. Sacrificing US lives is always hard, but to do it for ungrateful savages is too much to stomach. Hey al-Maliki, when the US leaves, why do I think you will be in hiding?

Oh, BTW, I also know that the moment the US leaves, Iran will move in and use Iraq as a launching pad. Smart... Give us an excuse, Tehran.

Resign? Hell, this guy should be made state party chairman! This guy embodies the word ‘party’!

Now this is the Democrats so in reality, he was not pressured to resign because there were strippers. He was forced out because he did not have male strippers for the ladies as well. Gotta be fair, right?!?!

It Gets Worse: More than 500,000 Additional Ohio Taxpayers’ Data Lost

Gov. Ted Strickland said today that it now appears there was an additional 561,000 taxpayers data that was lost in a recent theft of a back-up tape from a state employee.

The new tally is:

-561,126 taxpayers who had an uncashed Ohio personal income tax refund check at some time during the last three years

-8,123 former state employees

-86,968 vendors.

Al Gore III -- whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming -- was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff's deputy at about 2:15 a.m..

Red White and Bust… WCMH NBC4 Blows It

Local NBC affiliate, NBC4 (WCMH) sponsors and broadcasts the Midwest’s largest fireworks display, Red White and Boom.

This year the pre-show was littered with mention again and again about how it will be shown in High Definition (HD). Each WCMH personality crowed about the high tech show this year. Apparently sound, however, is still a challenge.

Although the soundtrack is broadcasted on AC station WNCI 97.9, we chose to listen to the soundtrack and the sounds of the fireworks on WCMH. The opening scene showed the faces of Soldiers, Marines and Sailors who gave their lives in service. As this was on screen we hear the nation anthem... and the opening scene to NBC’s Law and Order.

You guessed it... during the national anthem and while showing dead soldiers, there was audio of a murder being discovered.


It is the 21st century and WCMH can’t figure out how to turn off the New York feed. Amazing and bush league at best. These fireworks may be the best in the Midwest but the production crew at WCMH is the worst. Way to go guys.

BTW, I called WCMH. They woman on the phone said I was “...like the 10th person to call.” And she sounded annoyed. She said they were “were working on it”. Well you have 364 day to figure out your sound board.

Can you imagine getting a review at work saying that you are doing a horrible job, that the satisfaction level of your performance was less than 20% and then looking your boss in the eye and saying, "Cool... so can I have a raise?"

People have been fired for less.

Ohio State Is Now A Hacky Theme Park

Those of you who are regular readers, all 4 of you, know that I have only recently moved back to Columbus after being gone from Ohio since 1997. Truth be told, most of my time from 1993-1997 was spent in Oxford Ohio while in school, but I retuned almost every summer.

In 1997 I joined the Navy and rarely had the chance to return to the Capital City. My recent homecoming has been a rediscovery of sorts since so much has changed in this area. Almost all of it is for the better: NHL, Arena District, the Short North, businesses, the great housing, the amazing restaurants, etc. However, I discovered today one area that has, in my opinion become a caricature of itself: The Ohio State University Campus area.

When I was younger I used to enjoy all of the stores, bars and shops along High Street. So much of that area was what college is about in that it was free flowing, a little crazy and independent. It was what made OSU the amazing university it was. Now I understand that it was getting “out of hand” down there, but as I drove down High Street for the first time in over a decade I was saddened by what I saw.


Building after building replace with national chains, stores for Alumni and Eddie George’s restaurant. What dawned on me is that the OSU area has nothing to do with the students who actually attend Ohio State. The entire area is for Alumni to relive the days in an area which ironically they watched being replaced and for fans of OSU. No student could afford to eat on a Friday at Edie George’s restaurant. Gone are the cheap pizza joints, dollar beer nights and cheap coffee houses NOT originating in Seattle. The entire area reminded me of Universal Studios Florida. It is not a real studio... it is a just an amusement park with that theme. Campus has become just that... Ohio State World.

College areas should be about the students who actually attend, not for others to visit the pre-packaged, theme park area with over priced restaurants, stores and Scarlet and Gray photo ops for “What I did on my summer vacation” scrap books. Shame on the developers of High Street who are now wealthy but at the cost of taking away campus from those who pay to attend OSU.

No wonder OSU students drive away and take shuttles to leave campus when not in class. Sad.

Libertarian Party Continues To Peak My Interest

Today, while enjoying the Powell Festival, I visited the booth for the Libertarian Party of Delaware County. I gladly signed their petition to be recognized by the county board of elections to allow their candidates to run under the party’s name. This is not the first time I have looked in to the Libertarian party.

In recent years I have become dissatisfied with the GOP and of course the Dems are nuts. My good friend Jim over at the original Bearing Drift really says it best as to what is wrong with the party (although he was focusing the GOP in Virginia, it still rings true). Truly I am a libertarian more than a Republican... Maybe I should just give in and switch.

I plan on attending their monthly meeting next week in the City of Delaware. I want to learn more. We’ll see. If anyone has any insight, please share.

Mr. Wizard, Don Herbert, Dead at 89

When I was a kid there were a few shows that were more than just ‘must-see’, they were friends. One of those shows was Mr. Wizards World.

Mr. Don Herbert, AKA Mr. Wizard has passed away.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Don Herbert, who as television's "Mr. Wizard" introduced generations of young viewers to the joys of science, died Tuesday. He was 89. Herbert, who had bone cancer, died at his suburban Bell Canyon home, said his son-in-law, Tom Nikosey.

A statement from the Family:

It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the passing of Don Herbert - the one and only "Mr. Wizard". Don lost his battle with cancer today, June 12, 2007, at 9 AM Pacific Daylight Time - slightly more than one month shy of his 90th birthday. He was lovingly surrounded by his family, who are at once, saddened by his passing, and relieved that he is no longer suffering.

We all feel extremely lucky to have had him in our lives and to have known and worked with Don over the years. We have also been tremendously honored to carry on his legacy as an original and truly legendary figure in the worlds of both Television and Science Education. He has been inspirational and influential in so many ways and on so many lives and we are comforted in the fact that his ground breaking work and legacy will continue to inspire many more people for years to come.

Thank you so much to all of you for your support and sympathy.

Mr. Wizard’s genius was in its simplicity. No fancy graphics work, no loud MTV style editing with music and not even a crazy animated host. The show was simply a gentle, patient man explaining science to kids our age in terms we could understand. His wisdom came through and his passion for teaching, even more so than science I think, should serve as a lesson for educators everywhere.

Rep John Boehner Speaks With Bearing Drift Ohio and the SOB

House Minority leader, Representative John Boehner (OH-8) took some time today to speak with a few Ohio Bloggers on a conference call.

He spoke briefly as to what he sees as his role as the Minority leader, namely to earn back control of the Congress, but also he spoke a bit about bringing the GOP back to their roots and values such as limited spending, smaller government and accountability.

Very early in the call, The Minority leader spoke with us about the Democrats rules that will allow for earmarks to go unchallenged and hidden from public scrutiny. Taken from Rep. Boehner’s press release regarding this:

Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) and other House GOP leaders today introduced a resolution that would force the Democratic leadership in the House to restore Republican earmark reforms enacted last year. Democrats, led by Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-WI), have gutted those earmark reforms this year, refusing to allow members to challenge potentially wasteful spending on the House floor and instead setting up multi-billion dollar slush funds for secret earmarks.

"The earmark process outlined yesterday by Mr. Obey is a sham. Democrats are keeping earmark requests secret until after the House has considered appropriations spending bills, preventing us from debating earmarks on the House floor and subjecting them to scrutiny. They want the House to approve massive slush funds for secret earmarks - billions of dollars for whatever Rep. Obey and his colleagues to spend as they see fit. This isn't transparent. This isn't accountable. It is outrageous, and Republicans are going to fight it on behalf of American taxpayers.“

It is important to understand that there is no better proponent for this since, as he said to us today, "I don’t do earmarks, you know that. Never asked for one. Never got one"

One blogger asked how he might get Democrats to vote for earmark reforms to be re-instated. Rep. Boehner explained that he knows a lot of Democrats would vote for… If it were ALLOWED to be brought to the floor for a vote.

When asked if the Democrats simply were faster to be failures than the Republicans were when they were in control, Rep. Boehner explained that he understands that sentiment and that it is no large leap to understand that the GHOP lost its way around 2006. he said the problem was a focus on power more so than principals re-stating that he sees that bringing the Congressional GOP back to their principals is a primary job for his office.

A few other topics were touch on including the immigration reform ill which he says he does not see coming back and that “President Bush knows how I feel about [that bill]”.

He also spoke a bit about the Democrats deep desire to raise taxes pointing out that there is a $392.5 billion hole in their budget that can only be filled by either cutting spending (ha ha) or raising taxes.

When asked about the possibilities of the democrats putting up a fight for Ohio’s First District (Rep. Steve Chabot), Rep. Boehner was quick to say that he has a lot confidence in Rep. Chabot and that everyone on congress, especially on the left knows how much of a work horse he is and the record that he has made over decades of serving the first.

When asked about Ohio’s Rep. Jean Schmitt (OH-2) and the possibilities of a Republican challenger, Rep. Boehner tried to stay out of that one. He did say that it is up to the voters and, “I hear the buzz… I read the newspapers. Jean’s doing a nice job, but I don’t vote in that district, so…”

Not as supportive, at least that was how I heard it.

It is all but a done deal that Ed Gillespie will replace outgoing counselor to the President, Dan Bartlett and in my ever obsessed quest to make the connection between politics and XM Satellite radio, I have one question:

How will Ed Gillespie be able to lobby the FCC on behalf of XM/Sirius while serving as council to the branch that runs the FCC?

Quinn Gillespie & Associates LLC should remove themselves from XM/Sirius merger process if Mr. Gillespie is in fact the new Dan Bartlett.

Stubborn Liberal “Forgets” to Blame Democrats

Stubborn Liberal has a quick bumper sticker post about Americans Dying. Specifically he makes the argument that if a Republican wins, we will be in Iraq for "another ten years" and asks "is that what you want?" Of course not but let's consider two things.

First, what is this ten years theory based on? I know, emotions, not any facts (Par for liberal bloggers) but more important, SL starts the whole post off by pointing out that every democrat in the debate last night wants to pull out. SL says:

I saw a video clip of the Democratic debate from New Hampshire and what I heard was that the Democrats are all for ending the war and the Republicans are in support of keeping the war going.

Of course not allowing comments on his blog (because why would you actually want to have to defend anything you write in the blogosphere?) I will ask the Stubborn, yet obviously uneducated Liberal this:

-Who is in the majority in Congress?
-Who controls funding?
-Who should blame their party first?

We were all told that Dems would "clean up congress (like cutting pet projects? -chuckle-chuckle-)" and that funding would be cut off for the war... MoveOn.org claimed they "owned" the DNC. How is that working out?

Maybe a little less time living in the past blaming the GOP and a little reality check that your party used moderates to win majority, lied to you as to what they would do once in power, and sold you on the idea of blaming the GOP for THEIR lack of leadership. You must be so proud.

Amnesty International’s Hacky Poll Backfires

Amnesty International USA thought it would be cute to have a poll asking, “Who's got the worst human rights record? Darth Vader, Hobgoblin or Dick Cheney?”

Well, I am sure they expected the lemming libs to flock to this, but the joke is on them. Go ahead and vote, then see the current results. At posting time Hobgoblin had 57%, Vader was at 33% and the VP had 10% of the vote.

Bet they didn’t expect it to work out ‘so well.’ Hacks.

Abortion On Demand IS What it is About

Every time we talk about abortion, some liberal who likes to cloud the issue says something like "No one likes abortion, but..." "It is not fair to say people use abortion as some sort of casual birth control..." or my favorite "What about rape and incest?"

“A report on ESPN's Outside the Lines this morning contains news that could generate some major controversy regarding NCAA policies with respect to female athletes. According to the report, some schools have written policies saying any student-athlete who becomes pregnant will lose her athletic scholarship, and that many athletes have abortions because they don't want to lose their scholarships.

“At Clemson, seven athletes told ESPN they had abortions. There are apparently no firm rules governing how colleges or the NCAA deal with pregnant athletes, but many athletes say it's clear to them that if they want to continue to have a scholarship, they can't miss playing time because of a pregnancy. Syracuse forward Fantasia Goodwin played last season while she was seven months pregnant and hid that fact from the team.

Big Al ‘Media Whore’ Sharpton Goes After O&A

Before this ass goes after Opie and Anthony for comments made by a black, dunk homeless man, on a paid, adult rated satellite radio channel, let us all take a moment and review our notes:

Tawana Brawley controversy
On November 28, 1987, Tawana Brawley, a 15-year-old black girl, was found smeared with feces, lying in a garbage bag, her clothing torn and burned and with various slurs and epithets written on her body in charcoal. Brawley claimed she had been assaulted and ***** by six white men, some of them police officers, in the village of Wappingers Falls, New York.

Attorneys Alton H. Maddox and C. Vernon Mason joined Sharpton in support of Brawley. A grand jury was convened; after seven months of examining police and medical records, the jury determined that Brawley had fabricated her story. Sharpton, Maddox and Mason accused the Dutchess County prosecutor, Steven Pagones, of racism and of being one of the perpetrators of the alleged abduction and ****. The three were successfully sued for slander and ordered to pay $345,000 in damages, the jury finding Sharpton liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones, Maddox for two and Mason for one.

Crown Heights Riot
On August 19, 1991, the Crown Heights Riot occurred after a car accident involving the motorcade for the Lubavitcher Rebbe, killing a young boy named Gavin Cato. A riot was sparked after a private Hasidic ambulance came to the scene and, on the orders of a police officer, removed the Hasidic driver from the scene. Gavin and his cousin Angela were picked up soon after by a city ambulance. Caribbean-American and African-American residents of the neighborhood then rioted for four consecutive days fueled by rumors that the private ambulance had refused to treat young Gavin. A visiting rabbinical student from Australia by the name of Yankel Rosenbaum, 29, was killed during the rioting by a mob shouting "Kill the Jew." Sharpton has been seen by some commentators as inflaming tensions with remarks such as "If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house" and referring to Jews as "diamond merchants."

Sharpton marched through Crown Heights and in front of "770", shortly after the riot, with about 400 protesters (who chanted "Whose streets? Our streets!" and "No justice, no peace!"), in spite of Mayor David Dinkins' attempts to keep the march from happening.


Freddie's Fashion Mart
In 1995, Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the plans of a black Pentecostal Church, the United House of Prayer, which owned the retail property on 125th Street to ask Fred Harari, the Jewish tenant who operated Freddie's Fashion Mart to evict his longtime subtenant, a black record store, The Record Shack. Sharpton told the protesters, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." On 1995-12-08, Roland J. Smith Jr., one of the protesters, entered the store with a gun and flammable liquid, shot several Jewish customers and employees inside the store and burned it down. He killed seven in the store, and himself. Sharpton claimed that the perpetrator was an open critic of himself and his nonviolent tactics. Sharpton later expressed regret for making the racial reference, "white interloper," and denied responsibility for inflaming or provoking the violence.

LoanMax spokesman
In November 2005, Sharpton appeared in advertisements for LoanMax, an automobile title loan company. Sharpton was criticized for appearing in the ads, as LoanMax has been accused of predatory lending charging fees, and for marketing them to primarily poor, urban and African American audiences. The ads featuring Sharpton were run in predominantly African American markets.

On December 7, 2005, he ended his relationship with LoanMax. In a letter to Rod Aycox, LoanMax president and chief executive officer, Sharpton said, "I respectfully, but firmly decline your offer for further engagement on my part, and will not engage in any business relationship to promote auto lending with LoanMax." Sharpton said he had not done the research before agreeing to the commercials.

Duke lacrosse players
In April, 2006, Sharpton went on the public stage calling for the prosecution of three white Duke lacrosse players who had been accused of sexually assaulting an African American woman, Crystal Gail Mangum, who was hired as a stripper at an off-campus party. Sharpton appeared on The O'Reilly Factor, taking the side of the Ms. Mangum and defending prosecutor Michael Nifong, saying "I know this DA is probably not one that is crazy. He would not have proceeded if he did not feel that he could convict. So it tells me that all of what you said is either not true or he has convincing evidence that would certainly knock that out." The accused players were later exonerated in light of evidence that the Ms. Mangum was lying; DA Nifong, was removed from the case and is facing possible disbarment for unethical conduct. Sharpton refuses to apologize.

Response to Don Imus' slur
On April 7, 2007, Sharpton called for the firing of radio host Don Imus. On his morning radio show, Imus in the Morning, the host had referred to the women's basketball team at Rutgers University as "nappy-headed hoes." On April 9, Imus appeared on Sharpton's radio show. Again, Sharpton indicated that Imus should be fired, asking Imus if he was ready to sign his resignation. The following morning, Imus and Sharpton went head to head once again on NBC's Today Show. On April 11, MSNBC dropped its simulcast of the show. On April 12, Imus was fired by CBS, effective immediately. Some, including The Kansas City Star journalist Jason Whitlock, have criticized Sharpton for using the situation "to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda" when he should instead be focusing on other issues like the effects of hip-hop culture such as gangsta rap. Whitlock further accused Sharpton and Jesse Jackson of "exploiting [the Rutger's women's basketball team], making [...] the problems much bigger than what they should be." Sharpton has received death threats from angry fans of Don Imus' show, causing him to increase personal security.

Accusations of racism, homophobia, and bigotry
Many conservative and liberal commentators have accused Sharpton of being racist and homophobic. Sharpton was quoted as saying to an audience at Kean College in 1994 that, “White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.” Sharpton defended his comments by noting that the term “homo” was not homophobic but added that he no longer uses the term. Sharpton's defenders have said that the the quote is often used out of context to undermine Sharpton's image. Sharpton has since called for an end to perceived homophobia in the African-American community. On May 8th, 2007 Sharpton was accused of bigotry in his remarks against presidential candidate Mitt Romney's religion (Mormon). Sharpton said:

"As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."

Romney's spokesperson told the papers, "America is a nation of many faiths and common values, and bigotry toward anyone because of their beliefs is unacceptable." On May 9th, 2007, Al Sharpton appeared on Paula Zahn NOW on CNN and stated that his views on Mormonism were based on their traditionally racist views regarding blacks and the so-called "Curse of Ham". However the Catholic League (!), is calling for the end of Sharpton's career in regards these remarks . Al Sharpton recently appeared on the Glenn Beck Television program to discuss his comments about Moronism. Glenn Beck a professed Mormon wanted Al Sharpton to explain his apparent bigotted statements about Mormonism. During the program Al Sharpton said he plans on visiting some of the Mormon leaders to learn more about the religion and apologized for any Mormon's he may have hurt by his comments.

Ok, now go ahead and listen to what this ass**** has to say. (BTW my sources tell me that XM has refused Al’s request for a meeting between XM execs and his bully-ness)

Sharpton’s Glass House At Risk

The irony of this bigoted statement about Mitt Romney is that he has one less national radio show to go on and apologize. Hell, from what I understand, NO radio show will have him.

How many times does Sharpton have to do and say things like this before his credibility and his marching card is pulled?

What is Bearing Drift Ohio About?

I have noticed some new readers. First off, welcome. Second, let me be upfront in telling you that this is a work in progress. You might notice I declare this a Conservative blog, and it is, but I am moving this blog from being all political and more towards a general place for issues including politics, but also sports, pop culture, music, local businesses, etc.

Until I find that flow, this will be about a guy who grew up in Ohio, specifically Cincinnati as a young child and then Worthington, went to Miami, then left Ohio for almost ten years before returning home. A lot of things have changed, some things have not.

So please, give Bearing Drift Ohio a chance. Maybe you will learn something about Ohio through my returning point of view, and maybe you might be entertained. Hell, occasionally you will be outraged, may laugh, or you may want to drink heavily. Just ask my friends at the original Bearing Drift in Virginia what they have had to endure.

The Squeaky Wheel Back in Ohio: Impressions

I have been 'home' in Columbus, Ohio now for two weeks. I say 'home' because in the ten years I have been gone, a lot has changed. Where many farms used to grow crops, houses and shopping centers have grown. Places in the Downtown area that I dared not drive to in the past are now the nightly hot spots and places of commerce during the day. A town once obsessed with being Cincinnati and Cleveland’s little brother has grown up to be, what I believe, is the greatest city in Ohio, if not the Midwest, to work and live.

The housing market here is in bad shape. however. There is an abundance of housing available and at a reasonable price (especially compared to the Hampton Roads, VA area) but since there is so much housing available, the market time is amazing. Yesterday I looked at four houses alone that were perfectly fine, in good neighborhoods, that have been on the market from seven to twelve months. Amazing. I will purchase a house to move into once our house in VA Beach sells. Is anyone looking for a great four-bedroom in VA Beach?

As for work, that is great. The firm I work for is amazing and I know in my heart I made the right choice taking this position and leaving Virginia. I left behind friends but have reconnected with so many in Ohio to say nothing of the family I have here.

I know I have not posted in awhile, and between the new job and looking for a house (While trying to sell one in Virginia) I have been busy. Stick with me. I will get better at timely and insightful commentary, but please understand that I need to get settled before I do my best work.
